South Devon Steiner School

South Devon Steiner School is located on the A384 between Dartington and the A38.  The school stands in beautiful grounds, including a biodynamic garden, providing a rich and natural environment for the whole community.  It is a lively school with an active community. There are around 200 pupils at the school, starting with our Kindergartens through to our Upper School, including our College: Class 11 and Class 12.

 

Our School

Our school is well established and offers a full range of subjects.  We are a team of dynamic and committed teachers who work together to support all the students in our Lower, Middle and Upper school. 

We offer a full and balanced Steiner curriculum, which includes English and Math GCSEs as well as the New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE) to students in Classes 10, 11 and 12. Our qualification meets international standards and supports students with their ‘next steps’, including entry into University. 

 

Job description

The primary focus of this post is to teach English to the Middle and Upper School classes (classes 6 – 12). This is ideally a full time position, but the school would consider a part-time candidate.

 

Main responsibilities of the post:

  1. To teach English in an interesting and dynamic way to all pupils with all ability ranges from class 6 to 12.
  2. To teach English to classes 9 to 12 according to the Steiner curriculum and to assess the students according to the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE) from classes 10, 11 and 12.
  3. To teach GCSE English to classes 9 & 10 (a 2 year programme).
  4. To prepare for and deliver NZCSE LOs, tests and assessments including all associated planning, marking and administration of LOs
  5. To assist with internal moderation processes and prepare student work for external moderation.
  6. To take overall responsibility for the classes including:
    1. Supervising, managing and assessing the pupils in their English ability.
    2. Liaising with colleagues and parents.
    3. Record keeping and report writing in accordance with statutory and school requirements
  7. To undertake appropriate preparation, study and training as necessary both for the effective delivery of the lessons/curriculum and to advance the school's ethos and objectives
  8. To work towards further developing the English curriculum within the Middle and Upper School in accordance with the Waldorf curriculum and leading to the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE).      
  9. To maintain a clean and welcoming teaching space
  10. To attend weekly staff meetings, termly parents' evenings and annual student interviews.
  11. To support the school's ethos, principles and objectives
  12. To be aware of the school's policies and procedures and to support their implementation

Working hours and remuneration:

Location:                        South Devon Steiner School, Hood Manor

Hours:                            According to the timetable.  To be in school all teaching sessions plus additional time which is required for preparation, assessment and other duties required to carry out your full involvement in the school.

Contract:                        Permanent

Salary:                            £21,500 including holiday pay

Leave:                             Due to the nature of the post, annual leave cannot be taken during term time and the salary therefore includes an element of holiday pay.

Pension:                          NEST auto enrolment pension scheme

Probationary period:         2 terms
